One Summer Evening by Mary Lynn Baxter

Genre: Romance

Summary (Copied from goodreads): Fleeing an abusive marriage, Cassie Wortham returns to Louisiana to build a new life for herself and her young son, but when her violent ex-husband is paroled from prison and follows her home, Cassie must turn for help to her former love, Austin McGuire.

One-Word to Describe: Forgettable

Would I recommend: Not really. Unless you're just looking for steamy romance scenes and don't mind your plot watered down.

The Forbidden by Beverly Lewis

I didn't realize, when I found this book, that it's actually the second book in a series. I decided to give it a go anyway, figuring I can always backtrack if I really enjoy it.

Here's my take: Nellie and Caleb are very selfish people, in general. I found myself unable to root for them to be together because of this. That makes what is supposed to be the central love story of the book fall flat.

However, I enjoyed the rest of the story. Basically for me the story was about the splitting of the church and the struggle for the families torn apart by the split. I was fascinated by that part and what would happen to these families.

I'm not sure if I'll rush out to read one again, but if another one falls in my lap I'd read it.

Tempted by P.C. and Kristin Cast

House of Night #6

I've previously reviewed other books in this series and been all over the place as far as reviews. I like some characters, I didn't really get into others. That's probably why there's been such a drought of news on this series for me. I wasn't completely sold.

Fast forward to this book. Here's how this happened, I was in my favorite used bookstore trading some awesome stuff in. I saw this book on the shelf. If you haven't seen the covers, you should, they're gorgeous.
Anyway, the book caught my eye. Now at the time, I didn't have access to the internet. I had a printed list of things I was looking for at the store, but that book wasn't on there. If I had access to the internet I could've checked my blog or my "to read" list to see if I was actually on book 6. In absence of this ability, I did what any crazy book lover would do. I bought it anyway.

Then, over the weekend, I left the book I was currently reading at work. This meant I needed something I could devour quickly before getting back to work and resuming my reading on the book I had left behind. Enter this book.

I opened to page 1 and was immediately transported back to book 5. It was amazing. The authors wasted NO time sucking you back in. This time, they sucked me back to the point where I was enthralled with these characters. I'm not sure what was different about this series this time. Typically, if I'm being honest, 6 books is too much to hold my interest. I get tired of the characters and move on. This book was GOOD. This book was enough to make me interested in book 7.

Now I'm not sure if you can pick up book 6 and completely understand the series if I'm honest. You'll probably pick up enough to understand what's going on, but you may not be totally immersed in the world. So I'd say go for book #1 and don't give up before this one.

My library had them all, maybe yours will too!

Happy reading.

1922 by Stephen King

Stephen King is the horror master, no one is arguing that. I have not always been a King fan. I have, however, always been a King short-story fan. This one is no exception.

I enjoyed the story, I liked the character. The ending was AMAZING and just what I wanted. The book was nasty and gory in a lot of parts, which is what I wanted from this story.

I can learn a lot about horror novels with this one. May read again.

4 smiles and an ewww face (new to the blog).

Murder Games by James Patterson

Dr. Dylan Reinhart wrote the book on criminal behavior. Literally--he's a renowned, bestselling Ivy League expert on the subject. When a copy of his book turns up at a gruesome murder scene--along with a threatening message from the killer--it looks like someone has been taking notes.

I liked this character. Somehow the premise felt a little overdone, which doesn't make sense because I can't pinpoint where I may have read a similar story. The ending felt a little wrapped-in-a-bow for me. Granted, you all know I'm not a fan of that sort of ending. I like things messy and life-like.

I ended up giving this book three smiles. It's still good, but nothing I'd rush out to read.
